10% Cash Back on Groceries
There is less than one month until Discover it® Cash Back bonus category changes. I’m looking out for deals at the grocery store so I can stock up on supplies!
I’m currently in my first year of owning this card, which has quarterly rotating 5% bonus cash back categories. Discover matches the cashback for the first year, so I basically get 10% cash back on up to $1,500 of grocery store purchases until the end of March!

Chicken on Sale!
One major purchase I made was chicken. Surprisingly, a bunch of poultry was cheap. Boneless breast, boneless thigh, and drumsticks were all really cheap for this week. The drumsticks weren’t even advertised, but was probably the best deal!
I’m glad I noticed them though since $0.77/lb is soo cheap! I will cut up most of the breast and thigh and put them in ziploc bags. all the extra meat I can’t eat within a week gets frozen up! 22.3 lb of meat will likely last me over 60 meals, since I eat about 1/3 lb of meat per meal. I’ll mix things up with other protein, so this stash of chicken should last about 2-4 months.
Frozen meat can last indefinitely, but I don’t want to have too much in the freezer in case I move apartments when my lease ends in 6 months. I will keep my eyes on more deals until the end of the month since I can probably increase my stash more.
When I freeze meat, I put them in freezer ziploc bags, and crease them into portions. The bag pictured above has about 1lb of chicken thigh, so I divided it into 3 sections so I can easily remove 1 meal’s worth at a time. There are a bunch of tips for freezing food, such as using freezer bags, removing air, etc, on other websites! I like to use freezer Ziploc bags for freezing food. Pasta!!!
There was a buy 10 for $10 and get an 11th one free for pasta, pasta sauces, broccoli crowns, and mushrooms, so I bought 33 of these. I had some pasta at home already, but I will probably still run out of pasta before using up all the sauce. I’ll need to pick up some more pasta on my next few grocery trips. Each item is basically only $0.91 (not including my 10% cash back!). The larger pasta sauces are about 25 oz each, and the smaller ones are about 15 oz each. I tried to get a variety of sauces since I don’t know which ones I would like the most. Luckliy, I also get to try a bunch of different ones!
Veggies
There was also really really cheap green cabbage for 28¢/lb. I’ve never seen veggies this cheap! I only bought 1 though, as I have never frozen veggies successfully. I will try it out and if it works, I’ll also buy more veggies this month to keep frozen!
$80 for SO MUCH FOOD
All in all, I spent $80 this trip. For 22 lb of chicken, 13 lb of pasta, 21 lb of pasta sauce, and other items, I think this haul turned out really well!
Post in the comments! I’d love to hear what you think about buying groceries in bulk, credit card rewards, and anything else you want to share!
