Tracking your weight

Besides tracking your exercise performance, diet, sleep, or whatever you do, tracking your weight can be an easy addition!

Why

Tracking your weight can be important for fitness and performance. It can also help in weight loss. Doing so helps you make correlations on how your body reacts to changes in diet or exercise.

What you need

Scale: I use a metal surface digital scale from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Etekcity-Stainless-Digital-Bathroom-Technology/dp/B01HBC4QUO
Glass bathroom scales, even those with with 4+ star ratings, have very very scary reviews. Thus, I chose a non-glass surface one so that I don’t need to worry about it shattering!

How

Weigh yourself! Use something to record it: app, spreadsheet, piece of paper, etc.

I created a Google Form to include all the data I want. From the Chrome mobile browser, I created an icon on my Home screen. This way, I can enter my weight from my phone very quickly, and also easily process the data afterwards! Google forms/sheets make it super easy to tailor to each person’s needs and goals.

I also like to take notes for events that I foresee may impact my weight. This may include major exercise milestones, moving to a different city, vacations, etc.

In the end, it’s up to you how you want to keep track. You can jot your weight down on a piece of paper, use a mobile app, use a google form, or just keep it in your head!

Notes/Tips

I personally had a great experience weighing myself twice a day in just my underwear. Once before I slept, and once after waking up and using the restroom. This gave me very good data to look back on. For the last few months, I’ve only weighed myself once or less a day, after showering. This was much less helpful. I will probably go back to weighing myself twice daily.

Your weight will can change as you gain/lose muscle and fat. However, it can also vary day to day from water and food. The more consistently you weigh yourself, the more useful it will be for you!
